When Should You Replace Your Brake Pads?
Few things are as critical as your bike’s ability to shed speed. Brake pads are consumable items that vary wildly in quality and material. Choosing the right one determines your stopping distance in an emergency.
Sintered vs Organic
Sintered pads (metal particles fused under heat) offer incredible bite and work well in the rain but can be noisy. Organic pads are softer, quieter, and gentler on your rotors, making them ideal for casual street riding.
3 Signs You Need NEW Pads:
- Squealing: The built-in wear indicator is rubbing against the disc.
- Reduced Bite: You’re pulling the lever harder to get the same result.
- Visual Check: Less than 2mm of friction material remains.
When replacing pads, always clean the caliper pistons with a dedicated brake cleaner. Don't push dirty pistons back into the seals!
